Children’s Book Suggestions: The Circus Ship

The Circus Ship is one of our favorites! It is by Chris Van Dusen who wrote/illustrated many other wonderful books:

My favorite features about this book:

  • The use of rhyme. After multiple readings, kids are able to “help” you read
  • Gorgeous pictures
  • Excellent for teaching emotion through the characters, especially Mr. Paine!
  • Find and seek page; the animals are hiding and my kids love finding all of their strategic hiding spots!
  • Builds emotional vocabulary (The tiger is feeling brave.)

Amazon has it listed for 4-8 year olds and for preschool through 3rd grade. Grace (2.5) enjoys this book and Keener (4) loves it. It’s 40 pages so on the longer side but not many words per page. The illustrations are wonderful which encourage vocabulary development and rich conversation about the characters and events.

As a teacher and parent, I simply love this book.
